Subiaco Abbey is a foundation of St. Meinrad Archabbey (IN) and of Abbey Maria-Einsiedeln (Switzerland). The first monks arrived in Logan County on March 15, 1878. Fr. Wolfgang Schlumph, OSB, Subiaco's founder, received assistance from Einsiedeln in 1887 with the arrival of Fr. Gall and 8 young novices. Abbot Ignatius Conrad, OSB, led the community from 1892 until 1925.
