 "Mens
sana in corpore sano: a healthy mind in a healthy body." -
Roman motto
We
understand the importance of physical development in a young
man's education. Health and physical education include
personal fitness, an active outdoor sports program, and
competitive athletics.
Subiaco
has a strong tradition in competitive athletics and we take
pride in our many victories. We believe that the lessons
learned on the playing fields do translate to the classroom
and to life. While we always put academics first, we are no
less committed to excellence in the sports arena. We
appreciate the positive effects team sports have on a young
man's self-esteem. Our interscholastic competitive athletic
programs are an outgrowth of the emphasis on fitness,
skill-building and cooperative teamwork. Varsity teams
compete with area
division 4-AAA
clubs in football, cross-country, basketball, golf, tennis,
track, soccer and baseball. Because of the school's size,
each student has the ability to participate in one or more
of the varsity teams.
Our
expansive sports facilities include an outdoor swimming
pool, numerous tennis courts, soccer, baseball, track and
football fields, and a field-house for volleyball and
basketball with an all-weather facility ideal for team
practice and recreation during inclement weather.
Participation
in the athletic programs is high and encouraged. Our
coaches, all of
whom are members of the academic faculty, foster personal
interaction, stress the importance of academics, and are
providers of careful instruction. They exemplify the
positive role models necessary for a wellrounded educational
experience.
At
Subiaco, athletics is more than winning for the sake of
winning, it's about physical and moral growth through the
discipline and challenge of the pursuit of
excellence.
