Stand at the Door
This is the expression St.
Benedict uses to describe a person's process of seeking admission to the
monastery, and it's a pretty good one, even 1500 years after it was
written. By standing and knocking, Benedict encourages the candidate for
monastic life to have an open, inquiring mind and heart in seeking God
above all else.
If you are a Catholic between
the ages of 18 and 45, in good physical and mental health and spiritually
mature, and are not married or tied down by financial or other
obligations, you meet the first criteria for admission to the monastery.
Having college and/or work experience is desirable, too, since the
Benedictine way at Subiaco combines prayer and work. |
